Artist Process

Exploration of an individual landscape commences my serigraphic process.  Next, I reflect upon on site experience and strategize a formula of steps to build an image.  In serigraphy, areas of a silk screen are blocked to control the transfer of ink to the paper below, constructing the art one layer at a time.  Traditionally, printmaking was valued because of its ability to create many identical pieces of work and disseminate imagery and information.  Procedural and meditative, I choose serigraphy because it allows me to print short run editions made with hand drawing and painting techniques that celebrate the play between ink and paper.   Since only the screen is physically manipulated during creation, the artwork itself provides the artist an intriguing element of pseudo disconnect that is unique to printmaking.
